The Thursday Service
The Thursday evening Lecture Service, like the Sunday Service, consists of prayer, brief chanting and meditation, and an informative and inspiring lecture by a Self-Realization Fellowship minister. A free-will offering is taken. At the end of the service Paramahansa Yogananda’s Healing Ceremony is performed.
Paramahansa Yogananda rendered a great service to mankind through his prayers for world peace and for the healing of others’ physical, mental and spiritual afflictions. Each morning in deep meditation he invoked God’s blessings on all who had requested help, and sent them healing energy through performance of a simple but highly effective technique. As time went on he asked all the monks and nuns of the Self-Realization Order to join him in this endeavor to serve the world through prayer. Thus was born the Self-Realization Prayer Council.
Led by Sri Daya Mata, Paramahansa’s spiritual successor and president of the Fellowship, the work of this Prayer Council has continued uninterruptedly through the years. The Council deeply meditates and prays for others each morning and evening, and performs the healing technique practiced and taught by Paramahansaji.
Paramahansa Yogananda often expressed the wish that the healing work of the Prayer Council be augmented by the prayers of Self-Realization members and friends in every land, creating a spiritual union of sympathetic hearts–a world-wide circle of prayers. Today members all over the world participate in the Worldwide Prayer Circle each morning and evening. The Prayer Circle is part of all our Thursday evening lecture services.
The healing technique practiced by the Prayer Circle is described in the booklet, “Worldwide Prayer Circle,” available at all temples or from the Mother Center.
Each Sunday, during the time of the Sunday Lecture Service
(11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon), classes are provided for boys and girls between the ages of three and twelve.
The purpose of the Self-Realization Fellowship Sunday School is to provide a creative program that will effectively introduce our children to the teachings of our Guru, Paramahansa Yogananda. This includes meditation, energization techniques, and other Self-Realization principles.
There are four different classes:
Boys and girls between ages three and five
Boys and girls between ages six and nine
Boys between ten and twelve
Girls between ten and twelve
Teens (age thirteen and up) are encouraged to attend the Sunday Lecture Service with their parents.
All Sunday School teachers are Kriyabans and have been approved to teach by the Mother Center. Teachers’ assistants are either Kriyabans or “Lessons” students and have also been approved by the Mother Center.
